Alaa Minawi (Beirut, 1982) is a Lebanese, Palestinian, and Dutch interdisciplinary artist and lecturer based between Amsterdam and Beirut. His practice moves fluidly between performing arts, installations, and scenography, often using light as a central medium to explore belonging, displacement, memory, and healing. With a background in light design and scenography, Alaa has created large-scale installations and performances that engage with Arabfuturism and the politics of identity, most notably in works such as The Liminal and Out of Body Experience. His art has been presented at international festivals including SPRING Utrecht, Dancing on the Edge, and Motel Mozaïque, resonating with audiences through immersive and transformative experiences. Beyond his creative projects, Alaa is also an educator and mentor, sharing his knowledge with emerging artists across Europe and the Middle East. Through his work, he continues to challenge boundaries between disciplines, creating spaces for dialogue, reflection, and collective imagination.
